Brown and Caldwell's Portland office has a unique opportunity to support several large, multi-year recycled water and wastewater programs with further opportunities to connect with projects throughout the Pacific Northwest. This role will provide you an opportunity to engage in all steps of these projects and programs - from early technical evaluations through design and construction and ultimately startup and operations. These experiences will allow you to further develop and refine your biological, physical/chemical and advanced treatment knowledge and experience. In this role you will have the opportunity to collaborate and work closely with technical experts throughout the country to provide process engineering support on traditional and advanced treatment projects.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Execute technical analysis across a wide range of topics such as recycled water and wastewater.
  • Compile and assist with feasibility studies, alternatives analyses, and conceptual design development for water and stormwater infrastructure improvement projects.
  • Check performance or conformity with plans and specifications through field inspection and testing.
  • Assist with submittal reviews, requests for information, correspondence, change requests, and change orders for construction projects.
  • Analyze water quality and plant operations to support decision making for technical analyses.
  • Serve as a project engineer working with discipline and facility leads on design activities for recycled water and wastewater treatment projects.
  • Conduct business case evaluations of alternatives to support client decision making.
  • Develop preliminary engineering design drawings, specifications, and reports for recycled water and wastewater facilities.
  • Develop written reports, presentations, and other technical documentation to describe analyses and recommendations.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and through written communication, to coordinate with Project Managers and project team members including other disciplines (drafters, designers, and other engineers).
  • Collaborate with team members in BC's technical practices, project delivery, and design services groups to advance projects and meet client goals.
  • Conduct field work including activities such as sampling, data collection, and construction oversight as necessary for various projects.
  • Utilize internal systems for communication, tracking, and collaboration on projects and opportunities.
  • Meet identified performance metrics including project performance goals

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental/Civil/Mechanical/Chemical Engineering or related engineering field required.
  • 0-5 years of experience with interest in the wastewater, recycled water, or related fields.
  • Strong communicator, capable of listening and interacting effectively with staff and clients at all organizational levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with team members.
  • Strong technical writing and proven experience with technical writing.
  • Self-starter, results-oriented, and ability to work under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work both independently and on large, coordinated teams.
  • Ability and willingness to perform field work (including sampling, data collection, and construction oversight) at various sites.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Strong aptitude for researching and solving technical problems.
  • Good work ethic essential.

    Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee's primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.

    Location A:

    Salary: $57,000.00 - $77,000.00
