The Translational Medicine department at Genentech is seeking a highly motivated and innovative scientific leader for our IBD portfolio. The Director is responsible for the scientific, strategic and managerial leadership of the IBD team in Translational Medicine. The Director is leading a team of scientists who provide biomarker and translational research support to the IBD portfolio. The Director is accountable for ensuring that appropriate biomarker strategies are developed, using state of the art technologies, which novel biomarkers are discovered and are fully integrated into clinical plans allowing for maximally informed decision making. In addition, the Director is accountable for the translational research strategy IBD maximizing the learnings from our clinical data sets.

The Opportunity:

As an integral member of this dynamic team, you will be:

  • Providing strategic direction and oversight of the Translational Medicine, while delivering impactful biomarker strategies and data for the IBD portfolio

  • Being accountable for partnering with IBD leaders in Research, Clinical and GPS to ensure priorities are aligned, and projects are appropriately resourced

  • Responsible for prioritize resources to ensure optimal delivery of initiatives within budget and defined timeline

  • Establishing and maintain strong external partnerships with key opinion leaders, academic institutions and other external partners and seen as a scientific thought leader in the field of translational research.

  • Acting as a thought leader and active member of the Translational Medicine OMNI leadership team while providing excellent communication skills and evidence of success in complex, multidisciplinary environments are required.

  • Demonstrating ability to attract, develop, mentor, and motivate talented scientists

  • Creating an inclusive and inspiring scientific environment in order to deliver a diverse and highly productive organization that can attract and retain the best talent

Who You Are:

  • Ph.D., M.D., or M.D. /Ph.D. in Immunology, Biology or related fields with 8+ years of experience and expertise in IBD drug development and/or translational research

  • Proven leadership capabilities in building, developing, motivating and retaining effective teams that foster productive collaborations

  • Exceptional communication, influencing and partnering skills in a matrixed environment

  • Demonstrated innovation ability as evidenced by patents and publications

  • In depth understanding of technical and regulatory criteria required for biomarker and diagnostic development.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, California is $184,300- $342,300. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
